Benjamin Thierry博士是南澳大利亚大学Ian Wark 研究所的高级研究人员,主要从事纳米技术的医用、医药的研究工作,对纳米技术用于癌症的诊断等方面有较多的研究。报告简介如下:
The field of nanomedicine encompasses, inter alia, the use of nanostructured materials for the detection in vivo (imaging) and in vitro (biosensing) of tumours. One common requirement in these approaches is the need to ensure high level of molecular specificity in interactions with biological entities such as cells and biomarkers. Surface bio-engineering is therefore a key aspect in the development of successful nanomedicines. A range of bio-functionalization approaches have been designed at the Ian Wark Research Institute for their application to biological systems. This includes the design of optimal polyethylene glycol coatings for nanoparticulate contrast agents used in molecular imaging as well as novel functionalization routes for microfabricated diagnostic devices used to isolate circulating cancer cells from blood. These examples will be discussed with an emphasis on the need to design dedicated surface engineering procedures to successfully integrate functional nanomaterials into efficient diagnostic procedures.
